So if you bought a house that had this stunner of a wall mural in the entry, what would you do?
Keep it? Paint over it? And how guilty would you feel about painting over a wall mural that obviously took a lot of time and moolah? Well, my parents bought a house in Arizona a few years ago and this is what they got. What’s really odd is that their house is nothing like an Italian villa, which apparently is the look the previous owners were going for when they commissioned this mural. It took my parents years to decide whether to work with it ot ditch it. It had lots of pink. Lots of blue. Lots of faux brick. And lots of style that just wasn’t theirs.
Verdict is in: this mural gots to go. So when we did a mini family vacation down there this past weekend (woo hoo for family fun in the sun!), I pitched in to repaint the mural. And my girlie pitched in to do a little sanding.
A little sanding and painting is a super small price to pay for a free vacation pad, plus I pretty much never say no to helping on a paint project. (Side note: I really like that my mom also enjoys painting while holding a glass of champagne.) Here’s how this went down: double coat of primer; double coat of paint; top coat of “leather” paint; some balancing on ladders (pre-champagne); and then hanging a massive mirror and a couple of candleholders. Now the pics:

Alright, time to let your true feelings out – prefer the mural or the solid colored paint? It’s not my house so you won’t hurt my feelings with your opinions…
