There’s really nothing better to usher the Christmas season into your home than smelling a freshly cut tree and seeing it all lit up and filled with happy memories.
Okay, what’s even better than that is when your husband and kids brave 20 degree temps to pick out the tree, they forego their favorite kind of tree (fat and bushy) and bring you back your favorite kind of tree (a graceful noble), and then your husband puts on the lights and your kids do most of the tree decorating. And oh, all of this is done while you get to play with decorations for the mantel, whilst enjoying a glass of champagne.
My main contribution to the tree was making sure it was in the stand straight and then putting on the beads, crystal garland, and boas-turned-snow.
See – this is why I love a noble. There are great big spaces between the branches so the tree can breathe. Not to mention, show off some decorations.
Our tree is trimmed with a bunch of family ornaments and other ornaments we’ve collected over the years. We’ve got a full set of ornaments my aunt made me for all of my years growing up, ornaments I made for M in our young-love days, and now our kids’ ornaments.
So that’s our tree this year. Fewer decorations than usual, lots more clumped on single branches on the bottom, but still lovely for our family. And now for the obligatory nighttime photo.
And that’s just one corner of the holiday decorating explosion going on in our house. Anyone else love the smell of a fresh tree in your living room? Or get so excited to have kids old enough to take over hanging ornaments?
