Happy Friday everyone! We’ve been having lots of fun family adventures and getting back into the school/sports routine which means not a lot of blogging BUT next week I’ll be sharing all our exterior updates from the summer and a fun new kitchen update. In the meantime, I wanted to check in with all of you and say hi (hi!) and also update you on a few things in our lives lately. And while I’m at it I couldn’t pass up sharing that the chair above (that so many of you ask about) is on sale right now for 20% off (here). So family stuff first and house stuff below…
In September we took a couple of long weekend trips, one to Kansas City and one to Boston. In Kansas City we had a family gathering/reunion with all of my in-laws and in Boston we went to a friend from law school’s wedding. We had the best time on both trips! Both weekends made us realize that we should do family weekend getaways more often. They really are so rejuvenating and we get in such quality family time. While in Kansas we met our new niece and had a great time visiting with all the relatives. Our city kids also really loved spending time fishing, horseback riding, and just running for miles on a farm (I cannot relate).
In Boston we walked nearly all of the Freedom Trail, visited a bunch of different neighborhoods, ate at so many delicious restaurants, and partied the night away at the wedding. I had never been there before and it is such a beautiful city I can’t wait to go back.
Now that fall is finally here we are spending more time indoors instead of on our deck, which makes it a great time to tackle some house projects. I have a few things planned but nothing major for the rest of the year. I’ve even skipped participating in this season’s One Room Challenge because after our bathroom I just wasn’t ready to take on another huge project. But I still love watching along with everyone!
We have a few changes coming to our living room with the addition of these new chairs from McGee & Co (still waiting on them to ship). And I’ve mentally committed to switching out our turquoise living room rug. The problem is I need an odd-size rug – 9×15 would be best, but we could live with 9×13, which are at least easier to find. I am hoping the arrival of new chairs will light a fire under me to move on the rug.
I’m also making a few updates to our breakfast nook and even took the plunge and got this new table a couple weeks ago. I’d been on the hunt for one that was a little bigger than our existing one, rectangular with rounded edges or maybe oval, and a white top. When the new Project 62 line at Target came out it had the perfect one. But of course now I’m debating what to do with our chairs. I love our existing chairs in the breakfast nook but think the space would look better with chairs that aren’t quite so solid. I’m thinking these because I’ve always loved a good wood bentwood but these metal ones look similar and are less expensive. But I really do love wood. Ugh. Thoughts?
And I’ve been toying with the idea of some changes in our entry like maybe some rug layering, changing up the bench/console situation, maybe even bringing our smallish piano in here (weird??) but I would like it to be no spend/minimal spend. If I was spending it would be on this amazing bench which I’ve coveted for too long but I’m not, so I’m looking into other options.
So that’s where we’re at. Nothing too crazy on the house front but I think I’m good with that. I alternate between obsessively wanting to remodel all the things and really preferring to chill with a good book, so I think this fall will be a nice middle ground.
Be sure to come back next week to see all our exterior updates and what’s happening in our kitchen…
