I am on a freakin’ high about our house these days. And I don’t mean I am excited about its current condition so much as where it is going and how we are getting there. Possible reasons for this high: it is the new year; the Seahawks are in the playoffs and all of Seattle is excited; my birthday is less than a month away (God how I love birthdays); getting stuff done just feels awesome; or most likely because I have been inhaling oil-based paint fumes down in the basement for the past week. Whatever the reason, I LIKE IT.
I like being jazzed for progress and I like the energy it gives me to power through some things that have been on my to do list for this house pretty much since we moved in almost four years ago. I am no fool. This high will not last. So I am taking advantage of it now by pouring this extra energy into lots of 8-11pm nights working on house stuff (fueled by my husband’s awesome wine and snack delivery skills, of course). See that wineglass sneaking behind my can of paint?
So here’s what I’ve got going on right now. I’m firing on all cylinders in the basement by painting some wall-to-wall paneling (thus the paint fumes) and I might even tackle creating a kid zone down there.
Since my latest updates in the breakfast nook I’ve done a bunch in that space that I need to share – I think it might be my favorite spot in the house! One Instagram sneak peek was this:
I’ve also done a bunch of junk purging (not to be confused with junkfood purging) and I just feel so much lighter.
That’s part of what I want our house to feel like all the time: light, airy, clean, and inviting. I took Emily’s thoughts to heart about how you want your house to feel and I am working on putting my feelings into action. It is no suprise that my favorite spots in the house already fit the bill, like the breakfast nook and our two bathrooms.
But what I’m really excited for is starting to work on remodeling our kitchen. Right now, it is all mental work. And I definitely take a long time doing the mental work before tackling a big project like this. So who knows when the kitchen remodel will happen, but I am just so excited to work on a vision for it. I will be sharing more along the way about that too – so far I am thinking lots of white, natural wood, marble, etc. Again, bright, airy, and inviting.
I’ve got lots more coming – until I crash, of course.
Anyone else into kicking some house-ass? Or simultaneously working on one thing while mentally planning another part of your house? Let’s be high together.
