I finally made my first foray into ikat, in the form of a new gray-on-gray ikat rug for our guest bedroom.
Yep, I’m way behind the trend curve. And not just in design. I bought my first pair of skinny jeans less than a year ago (really, I tried to avoid drawing extra attention to my thighs/legs for as long as I could). I purchased my first chevron item about six months ago. And I still haven’t caught on to wearing flat boots (die hard high heel boot gal here and last week the Nordstrom gal told me I was two years behind the flat boot trend – ugh). Anyhoo. I thought it might be fun to add a pattern to our guest room, especially one that incorporated the light gray walls and dark gray upholstered headboard.
I figured I could go a little bolder than my usual style considering most of the rug would be underneath the bed. So I pounced on the Rugs USA 75% off sale earlier this month and got rugs for a few spots that needed them, including for this room. Remember, we had torn out our old carpet and then had our fir floors sanded and sealed, which left a lot o’ floor showing.
While we loved looking at the floors we wanted to warm the space up a bit with a rug. Or at least warm up our guests’ feet when they hop out of bed.
Now that we’ve got this rug, I am kind of excited that I went for something outside my comfort zone. Hello, pattern, nice to meet you.
Now that I finally caught up to the ikat trend, it should just take me about a year or so to catch up to whatever is hip now. I would have listed what that is, but I’d probably embarrass myself by guessing. Anyone else catching up to a few trends? Or going totally outside your comfort zone with pattern? You’ll note I that while I branched out by using a pattern, I still couldn’t get beyond my gray-on-white carpet safety zone (maybe someday…).
