I had a really late night at work last night (bleh) but was so super excited to come home to house progress: our gas fireplace insert was installed! Yeah, check that baby out in all its unfinished, really dusty, bare bones, camera flash glory.
Maybe regular people don’t consider this exciting, but when you tend to do everything yourself, going to work and then showing up to house progress is pretty, pretty awesome. Update: we don’t have the doors on this yet, but hopefully soon…
Let’s back it up a bit. This is our original fireplace (get the scoop on the “before” here).
So ugly. We lived with that for four years and then a jackhammer happened.
M did a ton of jack-hammering with amazing results. Good-bye 1950s stone, hello original 1924 fireplace. To be precise, September 17, 1959 is the exact day the stone came to be. The prior owners shoved a newspaper in the stone (not the first time we’ve found random newspaper hidden here) to save the date for us. Fifty-five years later, here we are:
So glad to be done with this mess. We are used to a lot of dust, but jackhammering really takes it to a whole new level. Yuck.
Now that the gas insert is in, we are onto the pretty stuff – yay! Tile, trim, tv, and more. Excited to get on that soon…
But for now, I’m pretty much happy to have this.
