Exciting stuff here folks: entry storage in the hoooooouse!
Call it what you will – an entry system, mudroom system, entry bench with hooks and baskets, or just a plain old space to hold lots of family stuff – this storage solution is life changing. No exaggeration. Good-bye coat racks and purses on the floor, hello lovely looking built-ins that corral all our stuff and make our daily junk look pretty.
Remember when we tore out our entry closets, got a new front door, and new entry lights? Likely not – I left you hanging on this room months ago. To catch you up, after those updates I added in a whole new entry system so that we had somewhere to keep coats, shoes, ice scrapers, backpacks, purses, scarves, car keys, and a whole heck of a lot more stuff that should go in an entry and stay there rather than migrating into the rest of the house. I did a combo of building the storage from scratch on one side and purchasing and customizing the storage from Ikea on the other.
Along with the new entry built-ins, I also framed out and stained our new front door:
And built these fabric-covered baskets:
Let’s do a few before and afters of this wall, shall we?
So, now that you’ve seen the completed entry storage, I should probably do a post or two about how I created the built-ins and baskets. More to follow on that (update: check out Part One for instructions on the bench portion and Part Two for instruction on the upper portion). After having lived with this entry storage for a while, I can tell you it is amazing. As in how-did-I-ever-live-without-this amazing. We don’t have a mudroom (or even a back entry that would necessitate such a room) so organizing our stuff in the entry while keeping things looking good was a big priority. I really didn’t want to go through all the trouble of tearing down our entry walls to create an open space just to junk it up. This system keeps us organized and looks pretty freakin’ sweet (if I do say so myself).
Anyone else think entry storage is life-changing? More to come on how to create these built-ins…
